The Arcane Season 1 finale does what only the best serial storytelling can: it arrives at its endpoint and the endpoint feels both inevitable and surprising simultaneously. 'The Monster You Created' converges every major relationship in the series - Vi and Jinx, Jayce and Viktor, Caitlyn and Jinx, Silco and the city he built - at a point where the prior eight episodes' emotional logic demands a reckoning. The finale's construction is precise: it does not hold back catharsis in order to manufacture sequel hooks, it earns its devastation through character consistency rather than plot manipulation, and its final image (the bridge, the rocket, the mask) is composed with the care of a novel's last sentence. The Hollywood Reporter called it 'a finale of extraordinary emotional force' and confirmed it as 'a genuine masterpiece.' Animation television has produced great series; Arcane Season 1 is among the three or four greatest animated series ever made in terms of sustained craft.
