The finale of Baby Reindeer does not provide conventional catharsis. Martha receives a sentence. Donny records a stand-up set he has been building across all seven episodes. But Gadd saves his most uncomfortable move for last: a closing scene that implicates rather than resolves. Critics praised the finale's refusal to let Donny off the hook even after legal resolution - asking what it costs a person to tell their own story. IndieWire named it one of the best finales of 2024, precisely because it denied the audience the comfort it had been carefully set up to want. The series won six Emmy Awards including Outstanding Limited Series, with the finale cited as the culmination of Gadd's formal and emotional ambition.
