After FX passed on renewal, DirecTV's Audience Network picked up Damages for two final seasons. Season 4 - 10 episodes, tighter construction - impressed critics enough to earn a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score. The case involved a wrongful-death suit against a pharmaceutical company, and while the show no longer commanded mainstream cable attention, its craft was undiminished. Ryan Phillippe joined as a new male lead, and the condensed episode count worked in the season's favour.
