Season 3 is the show's most uneven run. The first six 'cage episodes' - Jack, Kate and Sawyer held by the Others - drew heavy criticism for stalling the mythology and frustrating audience investment. ABC and the producers announced mid-season that the show would end after Season 6, which appeared to sharpen the storytelling. The second half of Season 3 is as strong as anything the series produced, culminating in the two-part 'Through the Looking Glass' finale - which introduced the flash-forward, rewrote the show's formal grammar, and is regularly cited as one of the best episodes in the series.
