What BollyAI Thinks

Season 5 (Spring 2021) splits between hero training exercises in the Joint Training arc and the much more critically discussed My Villain Academia arc, which dedicates five full episodes to the League of Villains' origin stories. That villain focus drew near-universal praise from franchise reviewers as the best villain characterization in the series' run - Shigaraki's backstory in particular elevated the antagonist to something with real dramatic weight. The Joint Training arc that precedes it is competent but unexciting. The season ends on the Paranormal Liberation War set-up, which makes it feel transitional despite containing genuinely excellent material.

The villain arc is the series' best antagonist writing; the surrounding hero-training content makes the season uneven overall.
