Season 4 is the most polarizing chapter. 'The Lying Detective' was the kind of episode that reminded you what the show could do - chilling, precise, Mark Gatiss's villainy genuinely unsettling. 'The Final Problem' then tried to go full gothic horror with Mycroft and Eurus and earned a hostile reaction from a significant portion of the audience. The emotional logic felt imported from a different show. It ended the series not with a bang or a whimper but with a shrug - the legend of Seasons 1 and 2 intact, the later seasons a reminder that the gap between ambition and execution is unkind.
