S2E1 The Relic

THE MOMENT The first visual confirmation that Silo 18 is not unique - the moment the series' world expands from a single contained mystery to a larger, more frightening one.

Season 2 opens in the aftermath of the Season 1 finale and immediately expands the mythology of Silo in directions that reward the first season's patience. The premiere reestablishes Juliette in a radically different context and introduces the wider world of silos that the source material only gestures at in the first book.

Updated

The Season 2 premiere picks up immediately from the cliffhanger of Season 1 and wastes no time in expanding the show's mythology. Juliette's new context forces the series to build out the world the first season was systematically withholding, and the premiere's most effective choice is to honour that expansion without losing the show's characteristic restraint. At 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, Season 2 earned a stronger critical response than its predecessor - the freedom to reveal rather than conceal giving the series a different but equally effective gear. Rebecca Ferguson's performance in the transition from the Season 1 ending to the Season 2 opening is the episode's strongest continuous asset.
