Season 2 (Summer 2009) continued the original story with the same creative team and Imagin production. The emotional arc between Lawrence and Holo advanced with more directness - the series' defining characteristic, the dance of two intelligent people refusing to admit what they feel, reached new frankness. The season adapted content that left several popular light novel arcs unreached, and that gap fed years of audience demand for a remake - a demand eventually answered by the 2024 Passione series Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf. As a standalone arc the season is confident and well-paced; as a continuation it ends in a place that felt provisional at the time.
