What BollyAI Thinks
Season 5 continued Weeds' struggle to rediscover itself. The 62% Rotten Tomatoes score reflected a press corps that retained affection for the show while registering that it had not solved the creative problem posed by leaving Agrestic. Nancy's deepening relationship with cartel leader Esteban Reyes and her pregnancy by him gave the season some dramatic propulsion. The border-area setting became more familiar, and the show found a rhythm of sorts. By this point Weeds had evolved from a sharp class satire into a comparatively conventional fugitive crime drama - entertaining but no longer particularly distinctive. Its audience remained loyal while the ratings conversation shifted toward what the show had been in its early seasons.

The new cartel storyline finds momentum but does not restore the show's satirical identity.
